My latest rant is about jobs. To be precise, applying for jobs.
I have sent out roughly 150 job applications in the past month and the responses back fall into two categories.
1. The "We expect a tremendous response to our advert, so if you don't hear from us within 28 days you have been unsuccessful" email/letter. Thanks.
What it should say is "We are too bone f*ck*ng idle to bother to compile a simple email with multiple recipients to the unsuccessful candidates" or, "We only get paid for the idiot we have recruited, so the rest of you can get stuffed". Now an email like that takes only a few minutes to compile AT MOST and cost absolutely NOTHING to send, so why do they treat people with such dismissive derision?
2. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Off it goes, your email with an up to date CV, a well composed and detailed covering letter and what do you get back? SFA is the answer.
I would like any one of these clowns to treat me like it in a face to face situation, so why do they believe it is acceptable to do that via the internet?
The internet us a wonderful thing so don't get me wrong, but it is a great way NOT to communicate with people.
