Furutech ADL H118 headphones seem to be very good value and have been well reviewed by the hi-fi press for both comfort and sound quality. As a bonus they are well within your budget Might even try a pair myself at that price. MCRU stock them and you have 30 days to evaluate them I believe MCRU web page

I also like the look of the Hifiman headphones, but looked on the MCRU website and the model within yours and mine budget range is out of stock. I don't know of course whether Mr MCRU will get any more in, so it might be worth asking

It's the same argument as ported or sealed speaker enclosures. Provided it's designed properly from the ground upwards I don't think it makes the slightest difference whether it's a closed back or open back headphone. It's all in the design and implementation that counts

Maybe I have funny ears but whenever I try to wear headphones for longer than just a few minutes my lugholes feel like they are burning hot. I do prefer the sound of closed back headphones though, but don't ask me why I do.

I have always lusted after some Stax Earspeakers. Way beyond what I am prepared to pay, although if I keep scanning ebay I might find a set for a reasonable amount.

I use a pair of Sony wireless ones listening to the radio in the bedroom as the signal is still good 15 feet away from the hi-fi, or if I want to watch a late night film on TV. Much better option than having long cable laying everywhere.

Just looked up Stax headphones they look very nice but I see what you mean with the prices Pete just a little bit on the keen side I should hope they sound out of this world They are rather good Trev, but do they justify the outlay? Hmmmmm, not an easy answer that one

They are rather good Trev, but do they justify the outlay? Hmmmmm, not an easy answer that one The ones I saw online were £3600 I don't care how good they sound I personally cannot justify that amount there are lots of things I would rather spend that amount on other than headphones i don't use them enough either to warrant that amount i would need to live in them for that money OUCH! £3,600! If I had that amount of money to spare I would spend it on betting, wine, women and song long before I considered headphones.
