Welcome to the forum "cruiser" I too once owned QED SA speaker cable and I can honestly sat without any hesitation it was the WORST speaker cable I have ever owned, despite it being raved about in the hi-fi magazines. What to replace it with you may ask? ANYTHING is the simple short answer. How much do you wish to spend? We can recommend any cable from the budget to the esoteric, but I suspect given your system components an inexpensive cable would suit?

A friend has a set of tellurium blue speaker cables so I borrowed them over the weekend. Holy sh*t what a huge difference! That was compared to my qed cable so I am trying to relate to the tq cable against the qed and how does the tq fit into the cables world? Ther tq blue isnt too much to buy either so would it be a wise move?

Good choice! I've had a pair of TQ Blue cables for around 2 years and they are a great cable. Certainly a world away from the QED SA cables which judging by your reaction have impressed you too. I later upgraded to the TQ Black cables but I found them to be less dynamic sounding than the Blue. Since then I have gone for the TQ Ultra Blacks which are truly superb but with a lofty price to match.

I had QED Silver Anniversary cables too and only bought them because the dealer sold them to match the speakers I bought. Got some Black Rhodium Twist recently and that is stunning, which made me realise I was hoodwinked by the dealer to buy that rubbish.

It does make you wonder how QED SA became the darling of the hifi press in the first place

Hello I'm using qed silver anniversery xt with airloc plugs which were sold to me by dealer when i bought the rest of my system i have always been happy with them BUT i have never heard my system with any other speaker cables so listening to you guys im interested to know how much difference it would make with different /better speaker cables at present my system is a Arcam avr400 shortly to be upgraded to arcam av888 and p777 (i have already got the av888 but still need a p777 if any1 knows of 1) Arcam cd37 Arcam bdp100 Arcam T32 4 monitor audio RX8 speakers matching centre speaker and 2 REL subs and 2 isotek G2 vision mains conditioners and upgraded power cables through out also im considering upgrading the sub cables to MCRU's REL's sub speaker cables with furotech gold plated spade terminals I would welcome your feedback and suggestions for new speaker cables and thoughts on new sub cables from MCRU Many thanks in advance Hi Trev and welcome to the forum. The Silver Anniversary XT cable is totally different to the original Silver Anniversary, so I hope you haven't been alarmed by my opinion of the original SA cable in this thread which was truly dire. However, the XT variant is not state of the art by any means and auditioning other speaker cables might raise your eyebrows with increased performance. My take on Arcam components is that they have a slightly lively side of neutral presentation, coupled with RX8 speakers should produce a sound that is full of bounce and verve. Am I right in this? I wouldn't therefore aim for a cable with an overly bright set of attributes, otherwise it may turn what is a pleasure to listen to into a fatiguing sound, nor should you head for a smooth sounding cable either which could also affect your enjoyment, so your choice has to be what pleases you. Your budget too will determine how much you wish to invest. MCRU stock quite a broad range of cables and all are covered by their money back guarantee, so by all means ask what cables they stock that would suit your system. I would be inclined to look at the TQ range and a home trial of more than one model would be advisable as TQ doesn't have a consistent "house sound" all the way up the range. For example, the BLUE has a fast paced sound to it, whereas the BLACK has a softer tone than the BLUE and the ULTRA BLACK is about as neutral as you could wish for, but at a higher price point of course. Advising at a distance isn't easy of course, but I would guess that the BLACK would suit your system. My statement above also holds true for the Sub cable as well as what we read in product descriptions and sales literature isn't necessarily what we hear with our own ears in our own systems, so again the MCRU cable can only be assessed by a home trial which I am sure they will be happy to oblige you with. Keep us posted on your journey please

Yes indeed I am glad I have allayed your fears over the QED XT variant.
When you speak to Mr Brook at MCRU kindly mention Cable Junction and my suggestions.
You seen to have a clear upgrade path to follow and pleased to that you are not going about it in a haphazard way too. So many folks new to the hobby make random stabs at where their upgrade path should go and I must say it is refreshing to read of someone that is working in a logical manner towards a sensible objective.
I must also thank you for the kind words about this little forum. My aim is to welcome those that are unsure about what to write and how to write it for fear of being ridiculed. That will not happen I can assure you. This sentiment is based around when I first joined a major hi-fi forum and HAD to acquire a thick skin very quickly!

I am using qed silver anniversery speaker cable from a nad amp to tannoy speakers and are they any good? Nope. I had a few inches of the stuff as jumper links and they managed to bog up the sound of my Tannoys. I see though you have gone over to TQ Blue speaker cable so I bet you have noticed a huge improvement

As I recall it the Chord Carnival is a silver plated copper cable which I am no fan of to be truthful. That applies to any silver plated copper cable by the way and no slur on the Chord which I too owned a few years ago in my second system. It sounded OK with a Marantz PM7200 amp and Ruark Broadsword speakers. It is difficult to do when there is around a 5 year gap since I last had that system wired with Chord Carnival, but I would tentatively say the TQ betters it.
Once again Trev, if you like it then that is all that matters and don't let me or anyone else tell you otherwise.
BTW . . . . . . . . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!
