A few years ago you could buy a turntable, a pre-1980s amplifier and maybe speakers of that age too for under £20 on ebay. NOW though, those same items are commanding prices up in the many HUNDREDS of pounds, even though few have ever had the lid off even for a simple service I wonder why that is? Is it because the cost of brand new components are beyond affordable? Are people hankering after the softer/mellower sounds of yesteryear? Is it just nostalgia?

It amazes me when so many ebay sellers use the word "rare" when the items were as common as muck. Most have gone to landfill for good reason that's why they might be "rare" haha!

Some ebay descriptions beggar belief in the overhyping of real tat. I agree too that the "rare" items have become rare for good reason. Another interpretation of the word is of course "Just done a search on ebay and couldn't find one the same"
LOL

The usage of the word rare out of context drives me demented as well. At least say why it is rare

Indeed the price of vintage gear is going up and up all the time. Seem some gorgeous stuff dating from the 70's and 80's going for silly prices but I would be very wary of plugging anything in unless I knew that it had been thoroughly overhauled beforehand by a competent person..
